Show Homes - Barratts - Oldmeldrum

Barratts Sales team wanted to create a family garden at the development in Oldmeldrum and enlisted the help and design from BBC Beechgrove Garden TV presenter Carole Baxter.

The garden had a severe slope to contend with at the front, so a retaining wall was built using mini log sleepers which gave an effective divide between a raised turfed and planted garden with a lower level with gravel and planting nearest the house.  The gravel was continued up the side of the house and into the rear garden which helped to carry the design throughout the front and rear gardens.  An arbour was placed onto a natural sandstone patio in the top left hand corner which gives an outlook over the entire garden.  Large climbers were planted along the rear fence to provide screening and privacy from future houses that were to built behind the garden.

A Grand Opening of the Showhouse was on 4 December 2007, at which Carole Baxter attended and spoke to all clients who came to view the Showhouse and gave them lots of encouraging ideas of simple cost effective ways to landscape the gardens.
